Sept. 2002
Commander's Corner
Summer is almost
over & that means schools are open
again!!
As
part of our community awareness, please be alert to children
crossing streets. I will be visiting out local schools in
Santa Clara in the near future. My plan is to promote
Americanism and the meaning & history of Our Flag. These
children are the future of Our Country and they need to be
educated on justice, freedom and democracy.
I am on the
learning side currently with projects with our 13th Distract.
I have done 3 Post Installations in order to relieve Cmdr Larry
Turley & 1st Vice Eddie Arabe for other Legion functions.
I hope to learn and get more experience with Our District as
this year progresses.
I am tending bar in our Post club room every Friday from 5PM to
??(late)------till the last customers leaves!!!! I do
bring snacks and we have music to appeal to anyone. Please
come by and meet new friends or get re-acquainted with ones you
already know! Come early - have FUN - stay late!!
Bring your cheerful self and family/friends. We need funds
for the Post!!
As you can see from above I am staying busy at the post. I
also work bingo one night a week. We need help as Vic Pawl
retired last month and Stanley Azevedo has also retired become
of family health problems. Please come and join us one day
a week. Show your Patriotism!! Fly Our Flag!!
Be kind to a fellow a Legionnaire and God Bless All!!!
1st Vice Commander
Well here we are again and as you all know that membership is
the key, at present we are at 55% of membership for this year.
If we can all speak to at least one member we could reach our
goal. Also getting new members in is our other avenue, and
we can do this. This is the "KNOW HOW POST" so we can
achieve our membership goal. I have submitted to the
Commander and the Adjutant a letter I'm proposing to send to the
Reserves and National Guard.
For hose of you who attended the picnic at the Elk's Lodge we
had a great time, of course I am tired of seeing chicken.
Thanks to Gurney and Clarence, because without them there and
their expertise in would have been real tough to do the cooking
right.
On another note we do need volunteers for Bingo if any of you
could spend a couple of hours down here it would help greatly.
If you have any questions regarding helping ask any of the Bingo
workers, we are willing to give you information as to where we
are willing to give you information as to where we need help.
If you have a good voice, Calling the games isn't too bad.
Please we need your help otherwise we my wind up closing it down
completely.
2nd Vice Commander
About 175 members and guests enjoyed the Posts annual picnic,
held for the first time at the Elks Lodge in Santa Clara.
More than 25 volunteers worked to make it a great day, while
serving abundant food and cheer.
The beautiful, large (>140#), black "Newfoundland" Water Rescue
Dogs shown by Mike Reyer and his wife attracted attention all
day. Children were excited to take rides in a wagon pulled
by this quiet mannered breed. Gail Marmet and her son Eddy
had games available for the kids while others danced and sung
Karaoke.
I am taking phone reservations at (408)252-8611 for seats on the
tram(s) so you can ride in the Veterans Day Parade in San Jose
on Nov. 11th. Lets encourage those members, who cannot
walk the route to ride with their families on a tram. A
bus will transport tram riders to and back from the assembly
area. We will meet at the Post Home at 9am for
refreshments before and again after the 11am parade.
Motorcycles and Cub Scouts will parade with us. We
encourage vets of all ages to come -- especially those we have
not seen for years. Yours heart will be warmed by the
enthusiastic cheers as our colors pass along. Regain the
pride you had in uniform!
