Oct. 2002
Commander's Corner
I
have been very busy with so many activities, work related and
fun projects. I did attend the Area 2 meeting along with Ralph
Jacob, Steve Villegas, Peter Patti and Larry Turley on September
7th and 8th in Redwood City. As always, I discovered that there
is always something new to learn and improve within the American
Legion. I have been wearing many hats while attending and
performing functions with District 13, Past Commanders Club,
Post 419 and Auxiliary Unit 419. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you
will find me selling the Early Bird Bingo Cards and on Fridays
you can come join me in the Club Room while I attempt to serve
you your favorite beverage. I have been keeping the Club Room
open till at least 12:30PM, so please stop by and visit. I do
bring snacks, so you will not walk away too hungry!! Please keep
in mind all the functions at hand: Halloween Dinner/Dance, Early
Bird Breakfast, Veteran's Day Parade, Children's Christmas
Party, Adult Post Christmas Party and the New Year's Eve
Dinner/Dance. Mark your calendars and come and have fun with
us, your Post family!! In lieu of all the turmoil in our Country
now, please remember to show kindness and respect to your fellow
Veterans and neighbors. Remember that this Country was founded
for freedom and we want to keep it that way. We need to show our
patriotism and keep our Military men & women in our prayers and
thoughts till they come home safely. Let us renew our Pledge of
Allegiance to our Country and our Flag. May God bless
everyone!!
1st Vice Commander
Went to the Area Meeting where I
attended the District's membership lecture.
Information pertained to ways of acknowledging the renewals of
members, utilizing letters to get potential new members active
by informing them of activities which happen through out the
month and year. Also to send them information on programs that
may interest them.
Team
strategy is a key element and it takes everyone's input to
accomplish good membership. Membership in reality is the Post's
lifeblood and we all need to work it.
As you
probably read in last month's Howdie we are farther along with
renewals then we have been in the past and that is great news. I
thank all of you who have responded and hope that the rest will
follow suit. This past month we really slowed down. Check your
cards and submit your dues for 2003. The following are upcoming
events you should remember: Dec 1 is the Early Bird Breakfast
also Dec 15th which will be the Kids Christmas Party. I can use
all the help I can get to put these on. Hope we have the same
support as last year at these and the New Years Eve party to
once again have a good turn out. I am sure that the Commander
will bring up the other events.
Be PROUD and FLY your FLAGS
2nd Vice Commander
Each of you alone or with spouse
and family can enjoy a few hours helping to show we are The
“Know How” Post by participating in the San Jose Veterans Day
Parade. We can attract new interest in our Post and activities
by showing the public many of our functions and sponsorships.
Post members will be riding in the wheelchair van we donated to
the Veterans Hospital to highlight the Bingo Volunteers. The
Liberty Bulwark Motorcycle Club, vets and patriots, will lead
riders who want to join in. Everyone is encouraged to ride.
Look for the rider in a Revolutionary Army uniform! Cub Scouts
from the units we sponsor will be marching. We will have a
proper Honor Guard for our colors, actually two, one with the
district and one in front of our group. To decorate the tram we
will have for non walkers, we will need placards made,
decorations, and flags. Meet at the Post at 9:a.m. Mon. Nov 11.
At 10 a.m. a bus will leave for the parade and bring everyone
back for refreshments after the parade. Let’s get a good group
from Post 419 to show San Jose what a great post we are.
Please phone me at (408)252-8611 to reserve your seat on the
tram or signup on the posters in the Post Club Room. We are
filling up already! I must turn in our detailed entry by 10
Oct.!! See our new website at
