December 2007 Newsletter
Commander's Corner
Dear Comrades, Many of you seemed to appreciate our speaker Miki (nurse practitioner), representing the VA outreach program. Would like a list of those of you interested in meeting with she and other medical personnel when and if a return visit is in order. Contact myself or the service officer so we can coordinate next contact. We are super busy with the holiday events and looking forward to seeing those of you who attend and/or volunteer. Big changes and improvements to our post is on the horizon. Vic Paul, Roy Franco, Jim Smith, and many other guys have put in numerous hours and hard labor to which we are so very grateful. Brenda and her kitchen crew have been serving up wonderful meals with an increase of hungry customers!
May your holiday season be a delight and the coming year the best yet.

Here we are about half way through the fiscal year, which is also the half way point in our membership drive for the year. The percentages look good at better than 85%. But this does not tell the whole story. We still have better than 130 members who have not paid their dues yet. I would like to see the post reach 100% by the end of the year. I recently made a number of phone calls to urge our members to send in their dues. What I found was there were a number of you who are more than willing to pay your dues but are under the impression the year runs from January to December. It does, in fact, run from July to June. So if you paid early in 2007 your dues were credited to the previous fiscal year.
A few members also told me they felt they were too old to remain a member. We value all our members particularly our senior members and never feel that any of our veterans are too old. The American Legion is the oldest and most active of all the veterans’ organizations. A portion of your dues stays with our post but more importantly a portion goes to the national organization. They use the money to lobby for more veterans’ rights and medical coverage. This of course benefits us all.
In closing I urge those of you who have yet to pay your dues, to do so as soon as you are able. As always, I hope this newsletter finds you in good health. TEN ZEN SAYINGS
1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.
2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and leaky tire.
3. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.
4. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.
5. Always remember that you're unique. Just like everyone else.
6. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
7. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.
8. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
9. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
10. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
Thank You.
