April 2008 Newsletter
Commander's Corner
Spring has sprung......We had nominations for convention delegates at the March membership meeting. Convention is in Beautiful Bakersfield
this year. A learning experience, meet members from all over California. if you have ever considered going then this is a good
time to become a delegate, representing our area. Still accepting nominations.
April meeting is also time to nominate new officers for our thriving post. There are some young newer members who have expressed interest, so let us give them our support and kind guidance.
Many improvements continue at the hall with continued enthusiasm from our distinguished volunteers. These folks put in many hours
maintaining a positive and good attitude. Its my great fortune to know and work with such individuals.
Remember that we serve nutritious, tasty lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Dinner and dance most Fridays. Come on down!

MEMBERSHIP: “How are we doing?” you ask. The last time I wrote this article I stated we were at 85%. We have made some progress towards our goal and, as of this writing, we are at about 94% to 95%. On its face it sounds good, and I don’t disagree. We do, however, have approximately 80 members who have yet to renew their membership. I am calling those who have supplied the legion with a phone number. But therein lies the problem. Only a small number of the remaining unpaid members have listed their phone number with the Legion. If you are unsure if you have paid up through the current year, look at your legion card. If the date on the card is 2008, you are current. If not, please send the renewal dues of $35.00 to:
American Legion Post 419
958 Homestead Rd.
Santa Clara, CA. 95050-4955
Or better yet attend the next meeting with your dues and I will buy you a beverage of your choice.
We only have until June to achieve our goal of 100% membership. In June we start a new fiscal/membership year. You also have the option of making a one-time payment known as “PUFL” - paid up for life. The amount is calculated based on your age. For more information on this you can contact our adjutant, Ralph Jacob. His number is listed on this newsletter.
A final note, if you have a friend, neighbor, acquaintance or anyone else interested in the legion please have them call me. New members also help towards the goal of 100% membership.
As always, I hope this newsletter finds you in good heath. See you at the meeting

THINK ABOUT IT
2nd Vice Commander (written by Jim Resigned)
As the temporary writer for this column, I will do my best to inform all of you of things happening. I have had a chance to come by the post a couple of times to see and enjoy the Friday Night dinner Dances. The meals are very good and you do not walk away hungry after dancing. I have been told that each week there is different entertainment. So far the new entertainment has been pretty good, a couple of different bands to listen to. Country, DJ Ray, We Three, and a new group called “Nite Life”. So for those of you who want to come down and Boggie there is music for all, pick a night and come on down. Not too much in the month of April as far as any Events but then you never know. In May there will most likely be a Mothers Day Breakfast, depends on the Officers of this Post whom I have been told have been putting it on. Heard tell that there may be another Car show in a month or 2. Don’t know the particulars, but I am sure if any of you happen to get to the clubroom you may hear about it. Now here is something that is people hardly ever hear:
“We thank you for the Delicious Dinner and all of the extras (Table Covers, Balloons, round tables and putting up with extra requests). This all came together for a very Special Evening for us, Family and friends. To show our appreciation, we enclose a Donation to start a Round Table Fund or to be used at your discretion. God Bless you all with good health and many more years of sharing your talents for the pleasure and good of others. This was addressed to Brenda (Post’s Executive Chef), Francis and Louis and other American Legion helpers.”
